Autorenporträt
In 1969 Peter Hills graduated from Surrey University with a degree in computing and control engineering. He became a Chartered Engineer in 1975. He worked for Sperry Gyroscope, later British Aerospace, in Bracknell and played a leading role in three major projects for the Royal Navy. Those projects all involved the Sperry 1412 computer, for which he was one of a five-strong 'skunk works' development team.He met Lindsay at Sperry Gyroscope, where she too was working on military projects. Professional and personal relationships developed, leading eventually to their marriage in June 1980 and the creation of a new business. The Hills' moved to Weyhill and set up Pacts Auction Systems - in so doing switching from military to commercial software development. Over the next 30 years, Pacts Auction Systems became the pre-eminent supplier of back-office technology for regional auction houses. It was used at over 200 auction venues and processed over £300 million of auction sales each year. Lindsay's role in the success of that business cannot be overestimated. And for up to four weeks in all of those years the extended family and friends had their riding and boating adventures that are the subject of this book.Peter and Lindsay retired when Pacts was acquired by Bidpath Corporation in 2016.
