It has become clear that its effects can transform society - digitization affects all sectors of the global economy and radically changes the way financial transactions are conducted, how governments interact with their citizens and how people interact with each other. Given the global scale of this digital revolution, the European Union and its Member States intend to address the challenges of digitization and promote its benefits. Initiatives and regulations such as GDPR, SEPA, Horizon 2020 and the Digital Single Market are just some of the ongoing projects at European level.
