The seeds for this book were planted five years ago when I was trying to produce my first transgenic plant in Professor Janice Cooke's Molecular Biology lab of the University of Alberta. Although there were lots of books on transgenic plants, I realized none of them placed an emphasis on showing the simple and easily understandable way of commencing and continuing the generation of transgenic plant. I had been dreaming to write a text book that would be very useful to a beginner who is doing genetic engineering research. Knowledge of transgenic organisms is becoming increasingly important for the successful survival of diverse plants and animals. This gene modifying (DNA recombinant) technology is efficiently used by human to meet the present need such as production of food and to create quality out puts. I hope this book provides a better understanding of the research methods in GM plants and help the budding bio-technologists to troubleshoot the issues. There is no greater wealth than wisdom.
