Secnidazole is an antiprotozoal compound of nitroimidazole group. The present project was designed to carry out the analysis of urine for secnidazole in healthy human male volunteers after its oral administration under local environmental conditions. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a rapid, precise and reliable assay for the quantification of certain antiprotozoal drugs including secnidazole. Drug research in the developing countries like Pakistan should be oriented towards the rational use of imported drugs and exploration of indigenous medicinal resources. The study supports the need for the comprehensive evaluation of drug under indigenous condition to obtained biodisposition kinetics, renal clearance and urinary excretion parameters on which the rational dose regimens of drug could be based.
