As competing demand grows, sound researched based information becomes increasingly important to the achievement of sustainable management of water resources. This study was conducted to identify the human activities along the banks of the Tano river and how it affects water quantity, quality and supply in the study area. The study revealed fluctuating water level and poor water quality of the Tano river. Human activities predicted change in water quantity and quality. The study further revealed that there is a direct relationship between population growth and the extent of human activities. This book will help in policy formulation and decision making to ensure sustainable use of water resources.

Kofi Asare has an MPhil degree in Geography and Resource Development from theUniversity of Ghana Legon. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography andEconomics. Currently he works with the Ghana Meteorological Agency and has particularinterest in climate change and water resources management issues.
