Lipids are prominent components of the nervous systems. DHA as a major omega-3 fatty acid in neural tissue has an important role in the structure and function of the brain. Diet can affect our physical appearance, physiological functions and psychomotor performance. Changes in the appearance of the human body and its functioning, from Homo erectus to modern Homo sapiens show changes in body height and weight of hominins, proportions of their body, the cranial capacity and brain size. During the last four million years of our evolution, there has been a general tendency to increase body size. Many people wonder why fish are such an important part of the hominin diet, especially in Homo sapiens. The abundance of fish, their high availability and invention of devices for their capture, were important factors determining this important role. The rapid growth of the human population led to increased pressure on aquatic resources and overfishing.
