Forensic nurses are uniquely valuable in the investigation and documentation of human rights violations. Many relevant medical task, ranging from physical examination to forensic exhumation of mass graves often produce evidence of abuses more credible and less vulnerable to challenge than traditional methods of case reporting. Contemporary roles in forensic nursing join with forensic pathologist in the exhumation of mass graves to collect evidence that supports or refutes allegations of government-sanctioned torture and extrajudicial executions.
