Maternal and neonatal mortality are considered important indicators of the quality of care provided. In view of the high mortality rates of this group, the World Health Organisation (WHO) launched a document in 1996 called "Good practices in labour and birth care", which lists a series of practices that have been shown to be useful and should be encouraged. These practices aim to minimise excessive interventions, some of which are harmful, during labour and childbirth, giving women back their role as protagonists and capable of conducting their own childbirth. Therefore, this study sought to assess in a maternity hospital of the municipal network of the city of Fortaleza-Ce, in the year 2013, considered Baby Friendly Hospital, if the institution followed the new WHO recommendations regarding good practices and what practices were carried out with parturients during labour and delivery. However, this work is intended for health professionals so that they can expand their knowledgeon the subject and become aware of the quality of care that has been offered to the mother and child binomial.
