With the growing importance of electronic data in day-to-day life and the wireless communications coming to homes and offices, the need to have secure data transmission is of utmost importance. Today, it is important that information is sent confidentially over the network without fear of hackers or unauthorized access to it. This makes security implementation in networks a crucial demand. Symmetric Encryption Cores provide data protection via the use of secret key only known to the encryption and decryption ends of the communication path. Two of the famous symmetric encryption techniques are: - AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) - is the block cipher ratified as a standard by National Institute of Standards and Technology of the United States (NIST), AES is based on the block cipher Rijndael and became the designated successor of the Data Encryption Standard (DES) since October 2000 - RC5 - is fast and simple encryption technique that is suitable for both software and hardware implementations, the power of the RC5 lies in its heavy use of data dependant rotation and the parameterization of all its inputs as the RC5 has a variable word size.
