In this book, the problem of management in an organization with a hierarchical structure is modeled as a hybrid multi-layer switching control problem. A novel approach is proposed to transfer a management problem to a control system problem. The supervisory control of a Discrete-Event System (DES) is used for decision making in the organization. This method takes advantage of the hierarchical structure of an organization to find the optimal solution in terms of achieving the desired scopes of the project while minimizing the resources (time and cost). Although the problem formulation is explained for a hierarchical organization, the method is general enough to be applied to any team collaboration problem including the flat structure organizations. In fact, this methodology improves the monitoring and controlling phase of the project management.
