An actual alternative to the traditional methods of storage (liquid, compressed gas) is the metal hydride storage system, where hydrogen is compactly "packaged" in a metal matrix due to the high volume density of hydrogen packaging in metal hydride (0.09 - 0.1 g/cm2), exceeding the density of liquid hydrogen (0.07 g/cm2) and comparable to the density of hydrogen atoms in water (0.11 g/cm2), and the high safety of such storage.
