The book contains analysis of the main morphometric and hydraulic characteristics of the Tysa, Siret, Prut and Dnister river basins within the territory of the Ukrainian Carpathians. A GIS project of the Carpathian region has been created, with separate layers of hydrography, catchment areas, which allows calculations of a wide range of hydrological and hydropower parameters of watercourses and mapping the necessary results. The general hydropower potential of the studied basins rivers is calculated on the base of long-term observations data. We assessed of environmentally acceptable and technically possible hydropower potentials. Hydropower potential maps for main sub-basins of the Ukrainian Carpathians are created as well. A new technological paradigm of small hydropower development on mountain rivers is proposed. The core of this paradigm is the build of new highly ecological small hydroelectric power stations (HEHPS). The hydraulic calculation of HEHPS is substantiated. The location and use of the HEHPS for hydropower production have been tested on the two pilot rivers - Chorna Tysa and Stryy.
