This book by Hossain et al., discusses the chemical constituents and biological activities (hypoglycemic, antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxicity) of four plants Andrographis paniculata, Anthocephalus chinensis, Sesbania sesban and Moringa oleifera growing in Bangladesh. A total of 14 compounds were elucidated. Diabetes is a fatal health problem in present world. A huge number of world's populations as well as Bangladesi becomes victim of this troublesome disease. Till date, near about 80 native plants are reported to have hypoglycemic activity. Thus we scientifically investigated blood sugar lowering efficacy with the extractives and some biologically active constituents of some traditionally used native plants. Moreover, some biochemical examination like antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxicity were studied. We concluded that these plants may provide useful dietary adjuncts to existing therapies. Besides this, they may represent a source of new hypoglycemic compounds fordeveloping better remedies to treat diabetic patients.
