Autorenporträt
My name is Betty Roberts James, a retired educator who served as an elementary school teacher and Literacy Specialist for the Gadsden County School District for more than thirty years. I am now a part-time reading teacher and a published author of two books, "Against All Odds: Artist Dean Mitchell's Story as well as "RetireMEnt What Now? Now What?". Writing books allows me to continue my desire to impact the lives of children. I believe that books are the greatest and most powerful equalizers we have when it comes to educating children and building strong communities. My primary audience is African American children. However, all ethnicities are appreciated. There is a strong emphasis on helping children understand the importance of good values and strong character. The characters are strong, self-determined and motivated. They help the readers understand that learning is fun. A life-long resident of Quincy, Florida, I am a graduate of Florida A&M University. Personally speaking, it is my desire to inspire my two adult children and five grandchildren to become life-long learners through books. Secondly, I wish to serve as a role model for children as well as adults. I want them to feel that you can become anything your heart's desire if you put your mind to it. I see an award-winning writer of children's books in my future. My hobbies include painting, sketching, as well as writing books and poetry. There are common threads in each of my hobbies. Therefore, I look for the small threads that help other understand and appreciate the beauty of creating unique bodies of work that can be passed on from one generation to the next.
