J. Patrick Lewis is an award-winning poet, a former Children's Poet Laureate, and the author of more than 50 books of poetry for children, including the Creative Editions titles Make the Earth Your Companion and Phrases of the Moon. Among his other honors are the 2011 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Excellence in Children's Poetry Award and the Ohioana Awards' 2004 Alice Louise Wood Memorial Prize. He lives in Westerville, Ohio. Miriam Nerlove is an illustrator whose detailed paintings of animals can also be found in the board books Dot, Stripe, Squiggle and Spot, Spike, Spiral published by Creative Editions. She lives with her family outside Chicago.
