Ahdaf Soueif, 1950 in Kairo geboren, wuchs in Ägypten und England auf. Sie fühle sich beiden Kulturen verbunden, erzählte sie vor Jahren einem Journalisten, und auch heute lebt sie mit ihrem Mann und ihren zwei Kindern abwechselnd in London und Kairo. Ihre schriftstellerische Karriere begann sie mit Erzählungen, die von der Kritik begeistert aufgenommen wurden. Ihr großer Durchbruch gelang ihr jedoch mit "Die Landkarte der Liebe", ihrem zweiten Roman.
