Information and Communication Technology had connected the world globally and is now changing our life style. There is no area of human life that had been untouched by IT sector. Agriculture and Animal Husbandry had been influenced by ICT; diverse set of technological tools and resources to create, disseminate, store, bring value addition and manage information. In order to transform livestock sector into information driven, modern and competitive sector, the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) cannot be overruled. They provide faster and newer ways of delivering and accessing information. Reaching 110 million farmers spread in more than six lakh villages across the country with the devise agro-ecological situation , is an uphill task. At present the ratio of farmers to extension workers is 1000 : 1 and also the existing transfer of technology mechanism and development programme implemented by the Government are slow and in many cases ineffective in view of vast gaps between research and farmers linkage. The existing technology divide can be addressed effectively through the use of ICT, especially the present system is no longer relevant and able.

Dr Hari Lal M.VSC, PhD is an Associate Professor with 18 years of teaching experience, at the Department of Extension at S.V.V University,Tirupati. He published 25 articles in national and international journals and also wrote 30 books. He conducted 12 training programmes for the benefit of formers and was recognized as best Extension Professor.
