It seeks to analyze the context of the creation of the Brazilian Institute of Bibliography and Documentation (IBBD), as well as its reflexivity in the construction of the identity of information professionals in Library Science and Documentation. Underpinned by social, technological and cultural factors and other economic interests, information policies are juxtaposed with the lines of force that corroborate the construction of the identity of information professionals, which is fluid and dynamic. The methodological procedures, of a qualitative and exploratory nature, were carried out in seven stages, ranging from a survey and bibliographical research, to the analysis of primary documents and oral history, and inclusion in the Scientific Memories Project: Oral History of Information Science in Brazil.
