Autorenporträt

Giovanni Bianchi was born in Sesto San Giovanni (Mi) in 1939. He graduated in Political Science from the Catholic University of Milan and taught philosophy and history in high schools. He served as the regional president of the Acli Lombardia and later as the national president from 1987 to 1994. His extensive experience in associations allowed him to delve into the "furrow and root" of social and political Catholicism, drawing inspiration from the experiences of Luigi Sturzo and the spirituality of Giuseppe Dossetti. He served as the President of the Italian People's Party from 1994 to 1997 and was a member of the Italian Parliament from 1994 to 2006. He was the rapporteur for the law on debt relief for poor countries and chaired the Permanent Committee of the Chamber of Deputies for Italians abroad. He was also the president and founder of the Circolo Dossetti in Milan, a promoter of culture and political education, and president of Cespi (Center for International Studies). In 2012, he became the national president of the Christian Partisans. His journalistic activity was expressed both in periodicals and magazines, particularly as the editor of the spirituality and politics magazine "Bailamme," and in a series of volumes (some in collaboration) covering various genres and editorial areas: fiction, poetry, and essays. A man of culture, exquisite and passionate intellectual, philosopher, and poet, he was one of the most significant Catholic voices in Italian politics from the 1970s until his passing on the morning of July 24, 2017.
