Throughout the history of the Christian church, there have been various answers to the question as to what the image of God in man consists of. This book deals with "the image of God" in the history of Christian thought. It is an attempt to comprehend how Christian writers have interpreted the image of God. This historical survey is selective rather than exhaustive. It looks at some representative answers which were given by Christian theologians from the second century to the twentieth century A.D. as to what the image of God consists of. The book is divided into four main parts: the Early Church, the fourth and the fifth Centuries, the Middle Ages, the Reformation Era, and the Post Reformation Era.
