This is the first of two volumes that together provide a comprehensive analysis of the embryology, normal anatomy, and pathology of the liver and intrahepatic biliary tract as seen on modern diagnostic imaging techniques. In this volume, readers will find fundamental information on embryology, radiological anatomy, and anatomic variants. A thorough introduction is then provided to each imaging technique, including ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine techniques, angiography, and interventional radiology. The remainder of the volume is devoted to non-tumoral pathology of the liver and intra-hepatic biliary tract. For each disease, readers will find full description of the roles of individual imaging modalities and extensive illustration of the imaging appearances. The authors are world-leading experts in the field, and the book will be an ideal reference for all members of the radiology community, from residents to experts. It will also aidclinicians during their daily practice.
Emilio Quaia, MD, is Full Professor and Chair of Radiology and Director of Residency Program at the University of Padova (Italy). He is also Honorary Consultant in Radiology at the University of Edinburgh, UK, where he worked in the Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI at the Queen's Medical Research Institute from 2016 to 2018. Prior to taking up this position in October 2016 he was Associate Professor of Radiology and Consultant in Radiology at the University of Trieste, Italy. Dr. Quaia graduated from the University of Udine in 1995 and then undertook training in Radiology at the University of Trieste. He also holds a Master's degree in the Management and Direction of Health Organizations (University of Trento, 2011). Dr. Quaia has received various honors and awards, including Radiology Editor's Awards in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011 for Special Distinction as a reviewer for the journal.
