Environmental pollution is growing at an alarming rate due to the extensive use of natural resources, industrialization and urbanization. It is said that, at present not a single corner of the globe is free from pollution as they are continuously distributed by anthropogenic activities. Agricultural wastes exert direct and severe impact on the aquatic life. In India, the pesticides are being widely used in agriculture on a variety of crop for pest control. Indiscriminate use of pesticides has seriously endangered aquatic fauna, man and his environment. Ratnagiri district is famous for mango and paddy production; and Imidacloprid is widely used to control pests of mango and paddy. Economically important fauna includes fishes, oysters and clams.

Dr. Arvind Samb Kulkarni has completed his Ph.D.with fishery biology as a specialization in 1996 from University of Mumbai.After that he joined Gogate Joglekar College, Ratnagiri as an Assistant professor in Department of Zoology and he is still working there. He has published more than 40 papers in reputed national as well as international journal
