Ratnagiri district is famous for mango and paddy production; and Imidacloprid is widely used to control pests of mango and paddy. Economically important fauna includes fishes, oysters and clams.

Dr. Arvind Samb Kulkarni has completed his Ph.D.with fishery biology as a specialization in 1996 from University of Mumbai.After that he joined Gogate Joglekar College, Ratnagiri as an Assistant professor in Department of Zoology and he is still working there.
