Floriculture is considered as the most colorful sector of horticulture and emerged as an important source of income for small and marginal farmers. India is poised to become the top flower trading center in globe. Jasmine flower known for its powerful, mysteriously attractive and seductive fragrance which got Geographical Indication during January 2013 in the name Madurai Malli because of its place of origin Madurai, Tamil Nadu which is southern part of India. GI tag helps in increasing the price of the product at international markets and leads to sustainable Development of farming community. Even though Madurai Malli got GI, the spread of knowledge on GI and Consumer awareness is still low only. Promotion of GI products and awareness would help the producers to gain premium price within the country and international markets. Hence, above issues need to be addressed more empirically. Therefore, an attempt was made to study the awareness on GI of Madurai Malli and its Perceived Socio Economic Impact among Jasmine Growers in Tamil Nadu. This will benefit the farmers, extension workers, researchers and policy makers to know the real impact of GI in floriculture sector.
