Meat and animal products are one of the most favourite foods in the western world. There are some studies that show that a high protein (HP) diet has a positive effect on on sarcopenia, glucose homeostasis, bone health, weight management and satiety. But there are only a few studies that characterise the physiological effects of a HP diet. Further there is no study done yet that investigates the impact of a HP diet on certain proteomes. In this study the impact of HP diet on platelet proteome was explored. The platelets were used as a model for muscle cells, since they have several similarities like the contractile protein system. Further there are several studies concerning changed protein diet and the homocysteine pathway. However, their results are very contradictorily. In this study the final evidence about the correlation of homocysteine, folate and vitamin B12 and HP diet is adduced.
