This dissertation examines the impact of the legal regime of marriage and the socioeconomic background of the spouses on marital conflicts in the commune of Cocody (Côte d'Ivoire). The study, conducted among 80 married couples, uses a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews to collect data. The results reveal that the legal status of the marriage does not significantly influence conflict, while socio-economic background plays a crucial role. Couples from underprivileged backgrounds show increased tensions due to financial and social pressures. On the other hand, economic resources in advantaged environments mitigate conflict. The paper points out that socio-cultural and economic changes, as well as the individualization of couples, exacerbate marital conflicts, threatening family stability.
