Rocks are drilled for several purposes, such as geological exploration, blast hole for mineral production, for rock bolting, rock cores for determining geotechnical parameters and rock excavation for civil constructions. To select and utilize the optimum drill bit and machine for specific job is a challenging part for mining professionals. The selection of drill bit depends upon the type of rock (geology) to be drilled and purpose of the drilling operation. Therefore, this book demonstrates some of the main factors which are influential in the selection of optimized drill bit for specific drilling operation for specific rockmass. The conclusion based on results is mainly dependent on the laboratory experiments and field application data from three different quarries of cement industries of Pakistan.

I did my BE (Mining Engineering) from MUET, Jamshoro, Pakistan in 2009. I served more than 2 years in underground coal mines. Since 2011 I have been teaching mining core subjects at BUITEMS, Pakistan. I worked as a consultant on different projects of Pakistan. Presently, enrolled in MS (Mining Engineering) at CUMT, Xuzhou, P. R. China.
