Food security is one of the areas where environmental disasters have negatively affected, compounding other challenges facing the achievement of the millennium development goal-one, which deals with eradicating hunger by 2015. The 2012 flood crisis in the Nigeria had far-reaching effects on different fronts including human and food security. About 14 states were severely affected, while Kogi State that hosts the meeting of two major rivers in Nigeria (Rivers Benue and Niger) was adjudged one of the most devastated states. The flood was because of heavy rainfall in the country, the downstream move of the Niger River floods that previously affected Niger and Benin, and the release of water from dams, including the Lagdo dam in Cameroon during the last week of August 2012. This book attempts to elucidate the effects of environmental disasters such as flood crisis on food security by comparing the food security index for the periods before and after the flood. The research adopted quantitative and qualitative analysis on the data gathered using structured questionnaires in Lokoja and Koto-Karfe, two of the affected communities in Kogi State.
