Curriculum implementation is the most crucial and sometimes the difficult phase of the curriculum development process. This is why the study investigated the barriers that the implementation of 9YBE Curriculum is faced with at Butete Secondary School in Burera District, Northern Province. The study revealed that there were barriers that impede curriculum implementation such as shortage of professional qualified teachers, time insufficiency to both teachers and learners, inconvenience of the school timetable, lack of staff development programs, non mastery of English as the language of instruction to both teachers and learners and the effects of large classes. It was found that teachers and learners received inadequate human, financial and material support as well as inadequate facilities to deal with their daily teaching and learning activities. For effective implementation of the program, it was recommended among others that the government should provide the necessary and required human and nonhuman resources needed in 9YBE schools by improving the program funding.
