This research project focuses on the importance of pre-school education for pupil performance at primary level 1 in the central arrondissement of Zè. The general objective is to analyze the factors that explain the refusal to preschool toddlers before the age of actual schooling in the primary cycle. The methodology adopted is based on documentary study, field research using survey questionnaires sent to 15 teachers and 10 authorities, an interview guide administered to 15 parents of pupils, and an observation grid used for 30 level 1 learners in classroom situations. The results of the research, carried out from April 02 to 29, 2023, show that preschoolers adapt better and faster to the realities of school life than their non-preschool peers. This explains why the first steps in kindergarten develop cognitive abilities as well as skills linked to socialization, language, reading, writing and mathematics, which are an important factor in academic success.
