To improve upon the management of limited real power resources in AGC of hybrid systems, the coordinated operation of energy storage devices and series FACTs devices may become useful. To address the issue, energy storage devices like Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) system and devices from the family of Flexible AC Transmission systems (FACTs) like Thyristor Controlled Phase Shifter (TCPS), Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC), are operated together in different combinations. The relative merit and demerits of CSA optimized controllers of the above mentioned devices in the two-area thermal and hydro-thermal system without and with DFIG integration are examined and compared. The SMES operation with DFIG integration improves the dynamic performance. To achieve better optimization efficiency compared to CSA, the controllers of wind integrated system are optimized with the help of Non dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II). The issue of different timeframes of controller actions with DFIG and AGC, are addressed in the same. Therefore, the optimized controllers together exhibit even better dynamic performance and robustness.
