Development cooperation is a rather young field, which emerged only after World War II with the introduction of the Marshall Plan in an effort to aid Western Europe s recovery. Unfortunately, poverty today is as widespread as ever and the gap between wealthy developed countries and poor developing coun tries is still widening. One frequent criticism is that there is an in suf fi cient amount of money that is spent on development cooperation for it to be successful. Yet there are many more problems and challenges involved which need to be addressed. This book identifies areas development cooperation needs to focus upon in order to be effective and calls for a global de velop ment strategy as the only way to bundle capital and expertise in the most efficient way. Development cooperation can be a success, with a global effort of all partners involved, a global reorganization of the development business and a refocus on key development areas, so that developing countries can be pro vided with a solid basis to grow out of poverty. Offering a solid analysis of de velopment cooperation, this book provides useful to everybody interested in the topic: from people working in development cooperation to researchers and politicians.
