In 1912 it seemed that Jacob Janzen was on top of the world. His family owned and operated a brewery and he was about to become betrothed to a woman he loved. They lived in the Mennonite colony Chortitza in southeastern Russia. Jacob Janzen was born in Russia, where he lived until 1924. He and his family immigrated to Canada, where they found a home close to Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan. He farmed and served his community as a minister until his death in 1936.
