Dwight R. Messimer was raised in California and is a U.S. Army veteran. Following his discharge in 1962 he obtained his MA in history and was a history professor at San Jose State University, as well as a sergeant in the San Jose Police Department. He is also the author of The Baltimore Sabotage Cell: German Agents, American Traitors, and the U-Boat Deutschland during World War I and Eleven Months to Freedom: A German POW's Unlikely Escape from Siberia in 1915.
