'A full-scale study of kinship in Flavian epic poetry has long been needed. In the Image of the Ancestors is a learned account of how the epics reveal a fundamental change in the Roman elite's perception of kinship and descent narratives during the first century. The subject is very engaging, the author is critically aware, and the book constitutes a very useful contribution to the study of Flavian epic.'-William Dominik, Department of Classics, University of Otago
