The series was announced in October 2005, and twenty episodes were first broadcast in March 2007. The programme is said by its creators to be designed to both relax as well as entertain its intended audience of two- to four-year-olds. One hundred episodes were commissioned by the BBC, with a budget of Pds. 14.5 million.
