Each issue features new characters and stories, often with a twist ending. Dr. Who, Star Wars, and Robotech were early influences of fanciful storytelling for Night Craft creator, Jesse Thomas. Jesse subconsciously realized at a young age that he preferred comics, such as Larry Hama's G.I. Joe, that had the same writer, in contrast to a series that changed writers inconsistently. Perhaps moving from Libya to England, and then eventually to the US as a kid, gave him this desire for consistency. He cites creator-driven comics such as Cerebus, Calvin & Hobbes, Silent Mobius, and Strangers in Paradise as inspiration. Jesse has also shared his talents working as the artist on Hellbound Media's Dawn After Dark, on Puddle Knob Publishing's Karentha Chronicles, and on JK Barber's, Battle for Snowhaven.
