Somatic embryogenesis is one of the most important technologies for plant regeneration of elite date palm cultivars, which presents a great potential for the rapid propagation and genetic resource preservation of this species. Considerable progress during recent years has been made in the development and optimization of this regeneration pathway through the establishment of embryogenic suspension cultures. The fast behavior of date palm cell suspension growth and differentiation would foster effective utilization for mass micropropagation and various in vitro investigations. This thesis is aimed at describing efficient regeneration protocol via somatic embryogenesis from suspension cultures, innovative information on recent progress for suspension cultures in the date palm and application of arbuscular mycorrhizes in growth and protection of seedling plants.
