Fungi grow on feedstuffs and cause contamination by producing poisonous chemicals called mycotoxins. Fusarium species infect many crops in the field and in store and they also produce mytoxins called fumonisins that are harmful to man and livestock. There is urgent need to scrutinize crops for this pathogen to curb the effects of fumonisins that are carcinogenic. Aspergillus produces afltoxins that are also carcinogenic and hepatotoxic and therefore the feedstuffs have to be managed in a way that eliminates or reduces the incidences of these pathogens.
