Orlaith Nellen comenzó su carrera académica en 1999 en el Trinity College de Dublín donde realizó una licenciatura de 4 años en literatura francesa y alemana, en 2005 completó su doctorado en educación y en 2007 comenzó una maestría en educación obteniendo un honor de primera . Actualmente enseña literatura francesa e inglesa en Suiza.
