India: Preliminary Demography of 2011 Population Census presents a detailed analysis of the provisional data of India's 2011 population census that have been released recently. The focus of the analysis is on the distribution of selected demographic variables across administrative units within the country including population density and age and sex composition of the population. The monograph also analyses inter-state migration patterns by comparing the enumerated population with the estimated one. The analysis reveals that population growth in India has been faster than the projected one during the period 2001-2011 despite the fact that population growth has slowed down during 2001-2011 compared to the period 1991-2001.
