The keystone species in the diet of hornbills were figs of Ficus religiosa and F. benghalensis making up nearly three fourth of its diet during breeding season. The hornbills indulge in various social interactions like bill grappling, aerial jousting and erratic chases in the canopy. The role of bark pieces supplied to nest inmates in nest sanitation was established by the author.

Dr. Raju Motiram Kasambe (B.Sc., B.A., M.A., D.B.M., M. Sc., B. Ed., M. Phil., Ph. D.) is an ornithologist, studying birds for the last 15 years. He did his doctoral research on the Indian Grey Hornbill in Central India. Published many research papers on birds and butterflies in India. He works at Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai, India.
