This industrial microbiology handout, designed for 3rd year Microbiology undergraduates, is divided into two parts. The first part covers fundamental knowledge, including industrial microorganisms, industrial fermenters and culture media. The second part deals with the products of industrial fermentation, such as microbial biomass, primary metabolites (amino acids, organic acids, biogas) and secondary metabolites (antibiotics, polysaccharides, vitamins). The course uses simple language and is illustrated with diagrams, photos and tables to facilitate understanding.
