In this edition, polyester reinforced with available filler additives has been prepared, characterized, tested and improved by image processing. It is a type of composite that can be defined as a mixture of at least two different materials. Materials composed of polymers and fillers exhibit better properties than pure polymers, including a high modulus of elasticity, high strength, heat resistance, low gas permeability and flammability. However, the mechanical properties of the composites are difficult to understand and control, but usually, they depend on the size and distribution of the fillers and the internal adhesion between the filler and the polymer surfaces. Thus, two different fillers, sawdust, and fly ash were characterized and added to the polyester matrix to produce various composites. Later, the composites were subjected to tests for hardness, impact, and tension. The microstructures followed by the image processing were taken from the particles to the final products. The resulting composites by hand lay-up method were successful, especially for structural applications. Further analysis of image processing can be a great way to improve for different purposes.
