Financial transactions through mobile phones are one of the most recent emerging technologies that have enhanced financial inclusion through creation of decentralized financial service supply chains. Kenya was the first country in the world to use mobile phones for cash transfers and has several players in the industry. In Safaricom limited, the service is called M-PESA. The M-PESA service does not require users to have bank accounts. To become a beneficiary of mobile money transfer, users need to register at an authorized M-PESA agent by providing their Safaricom mobile number and their identification card. Once registered, the user can buy digital funds at any M-PESA agent and send that electronic cash to any other mobile phone user. An M-PESA-enabled mobile phone can also function as an electronic wallet. Financial transactions through mobile phones have benefited organizations and people from all walks of life, ranging from individual users, agents, sub agents, private sectorbusinesses, civil society organizations and the public sector as well.
