The Western Balkans in last two decades has been highly instable area. Wars and economic blockage have left severe consequences both to the economic and political development. The EU, in order to consolidate peace and stability in its backyard , has offered to the countries from this region a perspective of the EU integration, provided that they transform their politic and economic systems in accordance with the EU conditions. However, experience with previous enlargements has shown that not only these conditions are relevant for the process of accession. In my research, trough the case study of Montenegro and Serbia, I have explained how formulation of foreign policy, in accordance with interests of the EU and interests of its member states, influences the accession processes of these coun-tries. This book tackles different issues like Kosovo recognition, relations with Russia and bi-lateral relations of applicant countries with EU member countries.
