Based on the findings, the poor reading comprehension skills of students are consistent with their performance in the English Language. By comparison, however, students in private schools performed better in these two areas than students in government and private aided schools. The performance in the English Language of students in private schools was credited to their reading comprehension skills while that of students in government and private aided schools cannot be factored into their reading comprehension skills. On another account, reading comprehension skills of students had a direct bearing on their achievement in English Language implying that this factor is related to reading should be explored to explain students' poor performance in the English language.
