Information und Sprache enthält Beiträge namhafter Autoren aus den Bereichen Informationswissenschaft, Computerlinguistik, Kommunikationswissenschaft, Bibliothekswesen und verwandten Fächern. Einerseits werden aktuelle theoretische Themen behandelt:, z. B. Medientheorie und Internet, das Verhältnis von Information und kulturellem Gedächtnis oder Information im Museum. Autorenporträt
Hans W. Giessen ist habilitierter Informationswissenschaftler an der Universität Saarbrücken und arbeitet dort unter anderem an Fragestellungen aus den Bereichen der Medienproduktion, der Medienwirkungsforschung und des E-Learning.
Er ist zudem publizistisch tätig und hat sowohl für das Fernsehen (ZDF), für Nachrichtenagenturen und für Zeitungen und Zeitschriften wie die FAZ, die Welt oder den Spiegel gearbeitet. In dieses Buch sind auch Erfahrungen eingeflossen, die er bei der Aus- und Weiterbildungsveranstaltungen für Fachredakteure und Journalisten gesammelt hat.
