The book contains valuable information on the riverine capture fisheries, culture fisheries and fisheries management of Indian major carps Labeo rohita, Cirrhina mrigala and Catla catla. Literature on age growth of freshwater fishes of India and abroad has been extensively reviewed. The text is supported by numerous tables, figures and photographs. Some observations made on carp biology and growth studies in different rivers are incorporated. Socio-economic aspects of fishermen communities, the need of fishermen cooperative societies and marketing of fishes also find place in the book. The book is based on an overall assessment of the present status of inland fishery in North India in general and Muzaffarnagar in particular.
