Okra, Abelmoschus esculentus is an annual vegetable crop grown in tropical and subtropical regions. In some English-speaking countries it is known as lady's fingers and bhendi or bhindi in India. For fetching good price, it is of paramount importance to get good yield and produce quality fruits by adopting recommended practices including the control of insect pests which affect the crop both quantitatively and qualitatively. The okra crop suffers heavy losses from the ravages of different insect pests both in vegetative and fruiting stage. Many conventional insecticides are sprayed for management of different insect pests leading to environmental pollution, insecticide resistance, pest resurgence, residual toxicity, health hazards and destruction of beneficial organisms, flora and fauna. By seeing all the ill- effects of conventional insecticides, an experiment was conducted in Mid hills of Meghalaya, India to evaluate different bio-pesticides and bio-rational insecticides against major insect pests of okra.
