Preventive medicine includes primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. The goals of preventive medicine and public health are similar: promote general health, prevent disease, and use epidemiologic tools to manage disease. This book takes a conceptual approach to the overlap and potential synergies of integrative medicine principles and practices with preventive medicine in the context of these levels of prevention, while acknowledging the relative scarcity of research on the efficacy of practice-based integrative care.
